I’ve got some good news and some bad news
And now for the bad. I have never, in all the times that I’ve judged the AMAHA POS, come across such a profusion of imcorrectly marked classlists on photo backs. One can always expect a few mistakes and/or oversights, but -- sorry, folks -- this was pretty bad. I committed a cardinal sin in photo show judging in that I got so impatient that I finally took a pencil and marked the proper classes on the photo backs themselves. If it annoys you, I’m sorry... As a judge, it annoys ME to have to continuously go back and rearrange and re-judge classes because people entered the wrong classes. No one single entrant was guilty of this: however, most of you who entered this show really, really, really need to go back through each and every one of your photos and painstakingly check, and correct, the classlists on the backs. I took the time and went through the aggro of trying to sort these out, but another judge -- most other judges, I daresay -- would not have done so, and the result would be lots and lots of missed classes for horses that deserved better. So -- PLEASE go back and make sure your horses are entered in the right classes. :-)
On that same subject, I do remember begging, last time I judged this show, that people straighten up and clarify their entries for bloodstock classes. Though most of you provided lists and presorted pictures, and made things as easy as can be, there were a few entries here that were improperly marked and downright confusing. Again -- please make sure your bloodstock classes are clear and easy-to-follow for the next judge.
Once again, it was a real treat to see so many beautiful models ... I think I’ve got a strong case of "covet-itis," now!

44. OF SHOWMANSHIP (26) Folks, do check your halters and set-ups for this class. I marked down on halters that were incorrectly fitted, and on those that lacked a throatlatch (except in the case of the real Bedouin-type ones). I took points off for those fancy Hollywood-style Arab show halters whose throatlatches had been left undone... many had the little bead that adjusts the throatlatch way down near the horse’s chest -- the bead should be drawn up to just beneath the horse’s jaw, otherwise, the halter could slip off and the horse could be free), and for lead shanks that were thrown over the horse’s back -- in real life, this would be totally unsafe. 1. NOTE: The decision over whom to give the CM Color
Championship and Reserve was an agonizing one for me. I had three extremely
worthy candidates, and only two spots. As AMAHA rules state that their cannot
be “ties” or co-championships, one of these three beautiful horses did not
get a championship. However, I feel she deserves to be noted, and so let
me say that the stunning black-going-grey filly, SHADEN, owned by Anne
Olejniczak, would have tied Kharris for Rreserve if only I could have broken
the rules {g}. Black is an extremely difficult color to paint and render
realistic, but this filly was exceptionally well done and looks as though
she’s going to walk right off the photograph. Congratulations to all three
of these very nicely done horses..
