Spotlight on Polish Arabians: *Etiw
From information provided by Skye Sciolto on June 5, 1999 on ModelArabians e-mail discussion list.

The late, great *Etiw was bom in Poland on January 9, 1969. He was pure Polish, a very successful racer. He was imported to the US in 1973 and had 264 foals, ALL GREY. His foals have won at the nationals in everything from harness to hunter to saddleseat to costume. They are beautiful movers and very typey. He throws big, if very well shaped and pretty ears. Out of his first 143 foals, 30 were champions. At the Sir William Dispersal sale, the high selling lot sired by *Etiw was the mare SW Tyncza who sold for $80,000. The sale average including young stock was over $30,000.
He was about 15 hands high, and had his first US foals in 1976. He died of cancer in January 1988. His last US foals were born in 1988.
His lower lip was white and he had high white on his legs. His stud fee was $4,000 (and with no guarantee whatsoever) if booked before April 1, 1986. After that, it was $5,000. In 1986, limited number of co-ownership interests were still available, due to increase in price 20% on May 1, 1986.
He was owned by a syndicate which was managed by Bill Bohl and stood at Brindlewood Arabians in Hillsdale, New York. They have a life size of him over his burial site that is very true to life.
"W" is pronounced as a "v" in Polish, so his name sounds like "Etive." Many of his foals use that "w," too, such as Skye's Festiw and Narretiw, Tsecretiw Lady, and Ewita. Skye has several model horse descendants of *Etiw standing at stud and for hire. Skye's real mare is a neat sabino, albeit grey, with lots of white on her face with squiggles and spots, and high white. Her dam, an *Etiw daughter, had very conservative markings, though chubari.
*Etiw had permanent status as a four-star stallion. He was selected due to his superior record of so many regional, national, and class A show champions, as well as his individual accomplishments as a top ten stallion in both the US and Canada.
